Home Economics Department

Home Economics is offered as an option for both Junior and Leaving Certificate at Tullamore College.

Why study Home Economics?

Home Economics provides students with the knowledge, understanding and skills necessary for living as individuals and as members of a family. In this time of rapid social change, the study of Home Economics is highly relevant. It prepares young people for the opportunities and challenges they will meet in the course of their lives, by giving them vital social, creative and management skills.

About the Home Economics Department

All of the Home Economics teachers in the department have a Bachelor of Education Degree. There is a subject co-ordinator for the department and the department has regular meetings to plan and co-ordinate subject activities. The teachers of the Home Economics department all undergo continuous professional development on an ongoing basis. Department members are experienced State Examination Commissioners at both Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate level for practical and written exams.
