Junior Debating Panel

L&H AIB Junior Schools Debating Competition

The Literary and Historical Society at University College Dublin runs debates for Junior Cycle students. Our Junior Debaters took part this year, proposing or opposing the following motions, among others:

  • "This house believes that obese people should be paid to lose weight."
  • "This house believes that animal rights don't exist."
  • "This house believes that boxing is a dangerous sport and should be banned."

The top photo on the right shows our Junior Debating panel.

Gemini Ireland Debates

Tullamore College is involved in the Gemini Ireland project, a cluster of Irish schools, which works for the development of education overseas. Each school is twinned with a disadvantaged school in Africa or Asia and students involved take part in fundraising for and correspondence with the students in the twin school. This year, some of the Irish schools met for a debating competition. The motions focussed on issues affecting the Developing World and the debaters researched these issues thoroughly before engaging in debate. Members of the Tullamore College Debating Panels along with a number of Transition Year students, formed part of the adjudicating panel.

The second photo on the right shows members of our Junior and Senior Debating Panels, along with debaters from Wilson's Hospital in Westmeath.

Our Junior and Senior Debating Panels are guided by Ms. Renée Gallagher and have the full support of the English Department, the staff and the student body.
