Tullamore College 5-13 Mountrath CS 3-7
Tullamore College Senior football team had two convincing wins over Cnoc Mhuire Ballymahon (0-14 to 0-07) and St Finians Mullingar (3-14 to 1-7) in the first and second rounds of the North Leinster championship recently. Two more wins in challenges over a county minor selection (2 points) and Colaiste Choilm Tullamore (17 points) left the team in confident mood heading into the Semi Final against Mountrath CS.
In blustery conditions in Cappincur, Tullamore College got off to an excellent early start points from Shane Tierney and Jack Dooley, Conor Dunne and Kaelan Thompson. Shane Tierney and Jack Dooley with a fisted goal pushed Tullamore College to a ten point lead after ten minutes with some excellent execution of scoring opportunities. With the Midfield diamond dominating and the backs very tight, little was given away and the half was 17 minutes old before Mountrath got their first score from a free by Sean Moore.
The College stepped on the gas again and excellent interplay from a number of players resulted in another goal from Conor Dunne before points from Micheal Mooney (2) and a Shane Tierney free left Tullamore College in a commanding position at half time after playing with a strong breeze.
Tullamore College set the tone early in the first half with good work rate that resulted in another score from Shane Tierney before corner back Joey Keenaghan popped up from corner back to kick a fine score into the breeze. Mountrath then came into the game and went on a scoring spree with the aid of the strong wind and scored 2-4 without reply, with goalkeeper Kevin Kinahan being very unlucky not to save a well struck penalty after turning it onto the post. Jack O’Brien’s introduction gave the College forwards a new lease of life when he came on after 40 minutes and he scored a great point on his first possession and followed up with another two points from play. Jack sealed the win with an excellent finish into the top corner with 10 minutes remaining before Micheal Mooney put the icing on the cake with an excellent individual goal in the dying seconds to crown a strong team performance.
The team will now go on to contest the final against De la Salle Dundalk. On the day, it was very hard to pick out a man of the match as everybody acquitted themselves extremely well. The backs were outstanding in the first half only conceding two points while the midfielders did Trojan work in keeping the forwards supplied with quick quality ball. Keelan Galvin from Tullamore excelled in his role and linked the play very well, setting up numerous transitions from defence to attack while in the forwards, the general play from the group as a unit with very unselfish support play was added to by the introduction of Jack O Brien who finished with 1-3 in the last 15 minutes. Senior Football League Roundup
Tullamore College completed their Senior Football league recently which finished with 3 narrow defeats against good opposition in Gallen CS Ferbane, Naas CBS and Colaiste Iosagain Portarlington. Some excellent displays were given over the course of the 3 games and the fact that all three games were lost by less than 4 scores, it means the team has good potential going forward as the teams played operate in a higher grade of football. As such, these three games will contribute hugely as the team prepare for the larger task that is the first round of the Leinster Championship V St Finians Mullingar. (Nov 2014)

Congratulations to the seven Tullamore College students who played a major role in Offaly U16 footballers recent win in the Fr Manning cup. As one of the most prestigious Gaelic football competitions for under 16's in the country, Offaly topped their group including Kildare, Roscommon and Leitrim and qualified to meet Westmeath (winners from another group including Longford, Cavan and Sligo) in the final.
The final ended in a draw match in Pearse Park Longford on a score of 11 points each. In the replay, Offaly got off to a bright start and led by 2-4 to 1 point at one stage but conceded scores before half time to go in level at 2-5 to 3-2. In the second half, Offaly again raced into the lead and led by 3-11 to 3-3 at one stage. With 10 minutes remaining, Westmeath started a comeback and with 2 goals in quick succession, the game was left on a knife edge.
However, Offaly kept their composure and finished strong to hold out and bring the cup back to Offaly for the first time since the competition began in 1964. Shane Tierney (St Vincents) was named man of the match having scored six points including five from play. Tullamore College teachers also played a major part in the success with Mr Keith Begley and Mr Michael Doolan as part of the management. Well done to all concerned.
