Jack McCann U16 Soccer Champions 2013
Tullamore College won the recently played Jack McCann U16 soccer tournament held at Leah Victoria Park in Tullamore. The competition sees Offaly schools compete for the coveted annual title. The schools who took part included, Coláiste Choilm, St. Brendans Birr, Ard Scoil Clara, Banagher College, Gallen C.S, Oaklands College and Tullamore College.
After a host of intense and tight matches in all sorts of weather conditions the teams which emerged in the final were Tullamore College and their very near neighbours Coláiste Choilm Tullamore. Despite seeming to control possession and having the better chances in the game Coláiste Choilm could not turn their dominance into goals with some great defending from Tullamore College keeping their chances alive and notable performances from Jake Naughton and Brian Ryan at the heart of the College defence.
With only minutes remaining in the game, and after some fantastic passing movements, Tullamore College won a free kick just outside the Coláiste Choilm box. Up stepped the captain Shane Tierney to bend the ball around the wall in into the top corner beyond the Coláiste Choilm goalkeeper. It was a goal fitting to conclude a fantastic tournament at Leah Victoria.
Banagher College won the senior Jack McCann cup, beating our team in the final with the score finishing 1-0 to Banagher.
A special thank you to Mr.Denis Magner for organizing the tournament and running it so efficiently, also to the referees on the day, to Tullamore Town F.C. for the fantastic facilities and to Mr. Padraig Boland from Offaly V.E.C. who presented the trophy and Medals.
Mr. Connor Meehan
