Senior Hurling Roundup
Tullamore College 3-10 Clonaslee 4-13
After beating Mountmellick Community School by seven points in the first round, Tullamore College came up just short recently in the North Leinster Senior hurling Q-final when played in O Brien Park Tullamore. Playing against a stiff breeze in the first half, the blues contested every ball fiercely and only trailed y a point after 20 minutes. However, 2 goals in quick succession and a flurry of points from Clonaslee left Tullamore College trailing at half time by 2-5 to 3 points at half time - a scoreline that didnt reflect the flow of the game after Tullamore College squandered a lot of chances to score.
Tullamore opened brightly in the second half with scores from Jack Dooley, Clint Horan and Joey Keenaghan brought Tullamore closer before an opporrtunistic goal from clonaslee was follwed by 3 points in a row to cement the lead. Tullamore were not done yet however and a kicked goal from Evan Gorman sprung Tullamore College into life. Points followed from Joey Keenaghan (3) and 2 goals from Kevin Kinahan and Clint Horan from a 21 yard free brought the blues back into contention. However, it was too little too late as the clock ran out and Clonaslee progressed on to the final. Best on the day For Tullamore College were Cody Hensey and Hubert Healion in the full back line, Barry Bracken when moved to centre back and Joey Keenaghan at midfield while Clint Horan Jack Dooley and Kevin Kinahan showed glimpses of their capabilities as the game wore on.
