London Trip 2009

On the 6th March 2009, our Art students set off for London to experience the works of art on the History and Appreciation section of their course first hand.

Along with Mr. Joe Caslin, the trip’s organiser, and Ms. Ann Mac Namara, who assisted him, the Leaving Certificate group visited the National Gallery, the Tate Modern, the “Unveiled” exhibition in  the Saatchi Gallery and the London Bodyworlds exhibition. The group also found the time to take a trip on the London Eye, and visited the West End to watch the musical “The Lion King”. The students thanked their Art teacher with the gift of a book on Leonardo da Vinci’s life and work, which is now on display in the Art room.

Sinead O’Dwyer Wins Fashion Award

Tullamore College student, Sinéad O’Dwyer, has won first prize in the “Reinvent Fashion” award, run by the third-level institution Griffith College.

The competition asked Ireland’s fashion designers of the future to research, design and construct one outfit using second-hand garments to remake a one off original for Spring Summer 2009 or Autumn Winter 2009. The brief raised awareness of sustainable design through reuse of unwanted clothing and through this environmental initiative students are compelled to develop their creativity and design talents.

Sinéad beat a total of 150 students from all over Ireland who entered the competition, which was open to Transition, Fifth and Sixth Year students.
